Artist and architect

According to her projects, many objects were built in different cities of the country. She is famous in Kharkiv and Luhansk oblasts. A regular participant and winner of regional exhibitions of painting. Initiator of the museum in Svativshchyna. Today, her watercolors of landscapes of her native city of Svatove and its surroundings are invaluable gems of the museum collection.

She was born on July 21, 1908 in the sloboda of Svatova Luchka (now the city of Svatove, Luhansk Oblast). She graduated from School No. 38, where the children of railway workers studied. Ever since childhood, she felt attracted to creative professions and dreamed of becoming an artist. In 1934, she graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Kharkiv Institute of Civil Engineering and did not leave drawing, but instead developed her skills as an artist.

By profession, H. Smerchynska is an architect who has worked in the specialty for more than 30 years. According to her designs, many objects in the cities of Poltava, Evpatoria, Sumy, Vladivostok were built, many houses were built in Kharkiv, including a building of the Taras Shevchenko Drama Theatre. She also skillfully designed avenues and bridges in different parts of the country.

Since 1945, she worked as a teacher at the Kharkiv Civil Engineering Institute, passing on her knowledge to future designers.

H. Smerchynska was a talented artist.

Many of her works were presented at regional exhibitions of painting in Kharkiv Oblast. Part of the collection of H. Smerchynska was donated to the funds of the Svatove District Museum of Local Lore. Her watercolors are priceless gems of the museum collection. Luhansk Regional Museum of Local Lore has repeatedly exhibited her paintings and accepted for temporary storage.

By the decision of the Executive Committee of the Svatove City Council of October 16, 1986, H. Smerchynska was mentioned in the Book of Honor with the title of the Honorary Citizen of the City of Svatove for invaluable contribution to the creation of the Svatove Museum of Local Lore and Art Museum Room. H. Smerchynska died in 1989, buried in Kharkiv, where she spent most of her life. Hanna Yakivna did not forget her small homeland, the city of Svatove, repeatedly referring to its landscapes in her own works.
