History of cooperation
Recognition of Ukraine: December 25, 1991.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: January 3, 1992.
Relations between Ukraine and the USA are defined as a strategic partnership. Since Ukraine’s independence, the USA has been promoting its establishment as a democratic and economically developed European state.
After the victory of The Dignity Revolution in 2014, the bilateral dialog between the countries reached a new level. The United States systematically provides financial and expert assistance to the new Government of Ukraine in order to strengthen the country’s defense capacity, restore economic stability, implement necessary reforms and provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation has positive dynamics as well. Groups of assistance to Ukraine - so-called "ukrainian cocusas" actively work in the U.S. House of Representatives, and in the Senate. Since 2014, several dozens of draft laws and resolutions on Ukraine have been submitted to the U.S. Congress. Among the approved documents, in particular, are the laws "Support of sovereignty, territorial integrity, democracy and economic stability in Ukraine", "Border broadcasting of the United States in Ukraine and neighboring regions", "Support of Ukrainian freedom". Today, the Congress is almost unanimous in favor of expanding financial and military assistance to Ukraine, including through defense weapons.
The bilateral dialog is described as unprecedented at the high and highest levels: the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko made an official visit to the United States on September 17-18, 2014; The U.S. Vice-President J.Biden visited Ukraine three times in 2014 (on April 21-22, on June 7 and November 21-22); the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatsenyuk visited the USA twice (on March 12-13, 2014 and on July 13, 2015). At the same time, there is an intensive telephone dialog between the President of Ukraine and the Vice-President of the United States, contacts are actively developing at the inter-agency level, including between foreign policy departments of the two countries.
Since Ukraine’s independence, the USA has been providing practical assistance to its establishment as a democratic and economically developed European state.

In February 2015, the Senate Ukrainian Caucus, which included 15 American senators, was created.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Ukraine and the USA is based on four specialized agreements. The existing contractual and legal base allows to develop and deepen all directions of bilateral humanitarian cooperation, in particular to ensure wide representation of traditions, history and cultural and artistic heritage of Ukraine to the American public.
Different directions of Ukrainian art are brightly presented on the territory of the USA. These are both exhibitions, concerts of academic music and classical singing, as well as folklore music, performances of variety artists and film shows. In many cities of the USA successfully run schools of Ukrainian studies, there are about forty of them in America . The functioning of these schools is based on the great enthusiasm of the community and a sincere desire to preserve and convey to the coming generations their language, culture and traditions.
A separate direction of humanitarian cooperation is the scientific exchange between Ukraine and the USA, which has been in progress since the beginning of the 90s and is carried out mainly at the expense of the American government. The relevant programs are funded by the U.S Congress, the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development and implemented through a number of American organizations.
