Novokhatskyi Oleksandr Serhiiovych

MD, PhD, DSs, a student of Academician V. Filatov. Novokhatskyi as a powerful specialist is widely known for his latest methods of eye treatment in Ukraine and abroad, which he distributed, while working in more than 20 countries around the world. He published 180 scientific papers and 3 monographs on vascular treatment and prevention of retinal degeneration.

O. Novokhatskyi was born on October 18, 1923, in the city of Svatove. Even in his school years, he showed tendency to scientific knowledge. When in 1941, 17-year-old Sasha was seriously wounded, his life hung on a single thread. It happened while digging trenches near the city of Krasnyi Luch, in our Luhansk Oblast. At that time, in the first days of the war, many people who had not gone to the front were mobilized. Oleksandr Novokhatskyi also got there. Even then he dreamed of becoming a doctor.

He graduated from the first course of the Rubizhne Chemical and Technological College, then from Kharkiv Medical Institute. From 1950 to 1965, he worked in Kharkiv at the Ukrainian Hirshman Research Institute for Eye Diseases. From 1963 to 1965, held the position of a Deputy Director. He was later sent to Odessa to the famous Filatov Institute. Near the great specialist Volodymyr Petrovych Filatov, Novokhatskyi gained experience, improved as a doctor and as a person.

Every year his authority was growing. The methods of this doctor were known not only in the institute, where he worked, but also at the all-Union level. Then the name of the young scientist became known abroad. He was consistently and deeply studied scientific work. His articles appeared in medical journals, telling about new methods of eye treatment. In 50-s, he defended his candidate thesis and later in 1967 his doctoral thesis in ophthalmology devoted to the Morpho-Functional Peculiarities of Retino-Hypothalamic Associations. He developed and improved special equipment for functional examination of the visual organ.

Novokhatskyi had a great authority in the scientific world of his own country and abroad. He visited more than 20 countries around the world with professional visits as a specialist and researcher. With such a rhythm of life, the doctor himself began to have problems with his own health. Last years, Oleksandr Serhiiovych lived with a Japanese heart stimulator, which one day, on October 12, 1993, stopped.
