Chuzhykov Mykola Fedorovych

Born on May 5, 1938, in the town of Makeshkino, Belhorod Oblast, RSFSR, USSR.

From 1954 to 1965, he worked in the mines of Lysychansk. After graduating from the evening department of the Lysychansk Mining Technical School, he entered the Voroshilovhrad Pedagogical Institute, graduating in 1971. By profession, he worked as a teacher. Married. His wife was also an athlete, always supported and understood all the numerous trainings and trips of her husband. Children did not follow in their parent’s footsteps, have quite different professions. He lives in Luhansk.

In 2004, Mykola Chuzhykov was awarded the title of the Honorary Citizen of Luhansk and in 2010 became an Honorary Citizen of Lysychansk.

He started his sports career in Lysychansk, at the Lysychansk Water Station. He played for Voluntary Sports Society “Avanhard”.

In 1963, a bronze medal in the B-2 1000m at the European and World Canoeing and Rowing Championship in Yaice, Yugoslavia.

In 1964, a gold medal in the B-4 1000 m at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The same year, he was awarded the title of the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

In 1965, a bronze medal in the B-4 10,000m at the European Canoeing and Kayaking Championship in Bucharest, Romania.

In 1966, a gold medalist in the B-4 10,000 m at the World Canoeing and Kayaking Championship in Berlin, Germany.

In 1967, a bronze medalist in the B-4 1000 m at the European Canoeing and Kayaking Championship in Duisburg, Germany.

In 1968, he participated in the Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico, in the B-4 1000m, but took the 5th place with the team.

In 1969, a bronze medal in the B-4 1000 m at the European Canoeing and Kayaking Championship in Moscow, USSR.
