According to the results of the first half of 2020, the EU remains a key trading partner of Ukraine with a share of 40.8% (in 2019 - 40.1%). According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the volume of trade in goods and services with the EU decreased by 14.8% compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to 22 billion dollars. USA.

During this period, exports of goods and services to the EU decreased by 14.7% and amounted to 10.5 billion dollars. USA. Imports of goods and services from the EU decreased by 14.2% and amounted to 11.5 billion dollars. USA.

The negative balance of trade with the EU in the first half of 2020 is up to -1 billion dollars. USA. The balance of trade in goods is -1.8 billion dollars. US, and the balance of trade in services remains positive and amounts to 0.8 billion dollars. USA.

Trade in Ukrainian goods with the EU

The volume of trade in goods between Ukraine and the EU in the first half of 2020 amounted to 18.8 billion US dollars, which is 14.8% less than in the same period of 2019. At the same time, exports of goods to EU countries decreased by 17.1% and amounted to 8.5 billion dollars. US imports of goods decreased by 12.5% ​​to 10.3 billion dollars. USA.

The main commodity categories of Ukrainian exports to the EU include:

  • ferrous metals - 15.5% (↓ 21.3%);
  • grain crops - 12.8% (↓ 30.7%);
  • fats and oils - 11.2% (↑ 30.0%);
  • electric machines - 10.9% (↓ 21.0%);
  • ores, slags - 7.0% (↓ 40.4%);
  • wood and wood products - 5.5% (↓ 13.5%);
  • nuclear reactors, boilers, machines - 3.1% (↑ 4.8%);
  • energy materials - 3.0% (↓ 29.1%).

Imports from the EU to Ukraine are dominated by the following product categories:

  • nuclear reactors, boilers, machines - 12.6% (↓ 16.4%);
  • land vehicles other than rail - 10.2% (↓ 34.2%);
  • energy materials - 8.4% (↓ 29.2%);
  • electrical machinery and equipment - 7.9% (↓ 7.9%);
  • pharmaceutical products - 7.7% (↑ 9.4%);
  • plastics, polymeric materials - 5.8% (↓ 4.5%);
  • various chemical products - 4.7% (↓ 15.1%);
  • Paper and cardboard - 2.6% (↓ 10.9%).

Trade in Ukraine's services with the EU

The volume of trade in services between Ukraine and the EU in the first half of 2020 amounted to 3.2 billion US dollars, which is 13.2% less than in the same period of 2019. Exports of services to the EU decreased by 4.9% and amounted to 2 billion dollars. USA. Imports of services from the EU decreased by 23.9% and amounted to 1.2 billion dollars. USA.

The main categories of exports of services to the EU include:

  • services in the field of telecommunications - 32.9% (↑ 36.5%);
  • transport services - 25.5% (↓ 21.4%);
  • material resources processing services - 21.6% (↓ 15.7%);
  • business services - 13.6% (↓ 3.9%);
  • repair and maintenance services - 1.9% (↓ 18.4%).

Imports of services from the EU to Ukraine are dominated by:

  • business services - 24.0% (↓ 21.9%);
  • transport services - 20.7% (↓ 34.3%);
  • royalties and other IPR - 15.1% (↓ 7.6%);
  • services in the field of telecommunications - 13.2% (↑ 8.8%);
  • Financial services - 11.4% (↓ 10.3%).
