History of cooperation

Recognition of Ukraine: April 21, 1992.

Establishment of diplomatic relations: April 21, 1992.

September 26, 2018: the Presidents of Ukraine P. Poroshenko and Yemen A.M. Hadi met in New York during the high-level segment of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The trade turnover of goods between Ukraine and the Republic of Yemen in 2018 amounted to USD 115.29 million. USD 114.15 million of that sum (359.1% of 2017) – domestic exports. Imports amounted to USD 1.14 million (514.7%). The positive surplus for Ukraine was USD 113.01 million.

Ukrainian exports were based on the following commodity groups: cereals (84.6%), vegetables (7.3%). The basis of imports from Yemen to Ukraine were plastics and polymer materials (99.7%).

The trade turnover of goods between Ukraine and Yemen for 11 months in 2019 was USD 107.13 million of which Ukrainian exports accounted to $105.11 million (102.2% in the same period of 2018) and USD 2.02 million (187.9%) –imports. The positive surplus for Ukraine amounted to USD 103.09 million.

The participation of Ukrainian enterprises in projects of military-technical cooperation, reconstruction and modernization of oil and gas facilities, supply of energy machinery and equipment, and providing of transportation, construction and education services, construction of port infrastructure could be a perspective way. At the same time, the successful resolution of these tasks is possible only after stabilizing the internal political and security situation in Yemen.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation

Yemeni youth involvement in Ukrainian higher education institutions in Ukraine (201 students) is a positive way of development.

According to the presidential decree of 22 November 2018 it was decided to provide humanitarian aid to Yemen (in the amount of UAH 10 million).

Peculiarities of the country

1. Yemen has no clear borders, as part of the border line runs through the desert where there are no fences or customs services.

2. A person who has visa to Israeli in a foreign passport, cannot enter Yemen like a number of other Arab countries

3. More than half of the republic's citizens are under the age of 15.
