History of cooperation
Recognition of Ukraine: December 26, 1991.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: May 7, 1992.
Peru supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the international arena. The Congress of Peru created the Parliamentary Group for Friendship with Ukraine.
In 2014, trade turnover between Ukraine and Peru amounted to USD 18 million. Ukrainian exports amounted to USD 10.6 million. Peruvian imports amounted to USD 7.4 million. Positive foreign trade surplus for Ukraine was USD 3.2 million.
In 2014, bilateral trade in services from Peru amounted to USD 3.7 million. Ukrainian services exports amounted to USD 2.2 million, imports amounted to USD 1.5 million. Almost all of Ukraine’s exports of services occur in the aviation industry.
In the first half of 2015, trade turnover between Ukraine and Peru amounted to USD 4.6 million. Ukrainian goods exports amounted to USD 2 million. Peruvian exports amounted to USD 2.6 million. Ukraine has a negative foreign trade surplus of USD 0.6 million.
The main groups of export goods are boilers, machines, appliances and apparatus, optical, photographic, plastics, polymer materials.
The main groups of import goods are fish and crustaceans, edible fruits and nuts, products of inorganic chemistry.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
In the field of cultural cooperation with Peru, the performances of a group of of ballet troupe artists of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theaters of Kyiv and Kharkiv became important (April 2015).
Peculiarities of the country
1. Peru is an amazing country where Indian traditions have survived to this day, despite the onslaught of Spanish conquistadors. Two cultures, native and European, have mixed and formed an amazing cocktail in its brightness and originality. However, strong local traditions and beliefs still exist and that thing makes Peru an extremely interesting country for any tourist.
2. Peru has at least one major earthquake each year.
3. The national cuisine of Peru is included in the Guinness Book of World Records due to its diversity.
