History of cooperation

Recognition of Ukraine: January 1, 1992.

Panama supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the international arena.

In 2014, bilateral trade turnover amounted to USD 176.3 million, with a surplus of USD 126.2 million for Ukraine. Ukrainian exports to Panama amounted to USD 151.2 million and imports amounted to USD 25.1 million. 

The volume of bilateral trade in goods amounted to USD 33.2 million with a surplus of USD 29.8 million for Ukraine. Exports of Ukrainian goods amounted to USD 31.5 million. Imports amounted to USD 1.7 million.

Ukrainian exports to Panama consist mainly of oil products, electrical machines, equipment, milling and cereals. The main imports from Panama are fruits and coffee.

The volume of trade in services amounted to USD 143.1 million with a surplus of USD 96.4 million for Ukraine. Exports of services amounted to USD 119.7 million. Imports amounted to USD 23.3 million.

Ukrainian exports of services include transport, telecommunication, computer and information services and repair and maintenance services. Imports are based on transport, business, telecommunications, computer, information, financial services and royalties.

In the first half of 2015, the volume of bilateral trade in goods between the countries amounted to USD 3.7 million. Ukrainian exports amounted to USD 2.9 million. Imports of Panamanian goods amounted to USD 0.8 million. The surplus for Ukraine was USD 2.1 million. The volume of trade in services for this period amounted to USD 71.5 million. Services exports from Ukraine amounted to USD 66.7 million and imports amounted to USD 4.8 million. The positive surplus for Ukraine is USD 61.9 million.

Peculiarities of the country

1. Panama is the only place in the world where you can see the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean and sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.

2. In Panama, there are more than 40 laws to protect foreign businesses, for instance, the non-disclosure of banking information and providing equal opportunities to both local and foreign companies.

3. The main products of traditional national cuisine are legumes, corn, rice and meat. Local people prefer to use fried bananas as a side dish.
