History of cooperation
Recognition of Ukraine: December 30, 1991.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: June 22, 1992.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, 10 rounds of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries have been held (the latest in November 2015 in Kyiv).
In 2002 and 2003, the President of Ukraine met the King of Morocco in the framework of international multilateral events.
A number of meetings were held at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (the last one took place in 2014 during the 15th Summit of the International Organization of la Francophonie (Dakar, Senegal).
Friendship groups have been established in the parliaments of both countries.
There is an Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Moroccan Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation (the first meeting was held in Rabat, Morocco, in 2009).
Between 2011 and 2018, the volume of trade turnover between the two countries nearly doubled.
Trade cooperation confirmed the growth of Ukrainian exports and their diversification in 2019.
Trade between Ukraine and Morocco amounted to USD 394.6 million in 2019.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the sphere of culture was signed on December 7, 2009.
Ukrainian representatives actively participate in cultural events in Morocco.
In 2012-14 and 2016-18 Ukrainian groups performed at the annual Rabat Festival of Children's Folklore.
In 2017 and 2018, the Barvinok dance ensemble toured in Morocco. In 2016, the 2nd prize of the Moroccan Princess Lalla Maryem International Piano Competition was awarded to Tatiana Shafran (Kyiv).
In 2017, the Rabat International Film Festival celebrated the film «Falling» (2017) with a prize for the best female role (D. Plahtiy).
In 2018, Ukrainian athletes won first place at the 17th International Gymnasium (Marrakech).
In 2019, the cities of Marrakech, Rabat, Salé and Casablanca hosted the performances of the dance groups Lubavushka, Polunychka and Vitaminchiki, particularly in the framework of the 13th International Festival "Children of the World".
14 cooperation agreements have been concluded between higher education institutions in the two countries, the most recent treaty was signed between Kharkiv State University of Food and Trade, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Shuaib-Duqqali University (Al-Jadida) in April 2018.
Peculiarities of the country
1. Morocco is one of the top five African countries in terms of GDP. The main sources of income are tourism, agriculture and trade.
2. Morocco is a key ally of the United States outside NATO.
3. Moroccans are very religious people. Yes, every train station is equipped with special rooms where you can pray in peace. There are even such rooms at petrol stations.
