Recognition of Ukraine: December 25, 1991.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: January 14, 1992.
Mexico consistently supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the international arena.
Mexico is one of the largest trading partners of Ukraine in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2014, the volume of bilateral trade between Ukraine and Mexico amounted to USD 249,8 million, with a positive surplus of USD 56,9 million for Ukraine, while Ukrainian exports to Mexico amounted to USD 153,4 million. Imports from Mexico amounted to USD 96,4 million.
In the first half of 2015, the volume of bilateral trade amounted to USD 92,1 million. Exports amounted to USD 60,8 million. The import of Mexican goods amounted to USD 31,3 million . The positive balance for Ukraine during this period amounted to USD 29,5 million.
The most important items of export to Mexico: ferrous metals, fertilizers, grain crops, equipment, mineral fuels and oil processing products.
The most important items of Mexican export to Ukraine: electric machines, equipment, vehicles, pharmaceutical products, optical devices, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, various chemical products, fish and coffee.
The volume of Mexican investments in the Ukrainian economy amounted to USD 9 million USD.
In 2007, the Ukrainian-Mexican Intergovernmental Commission was established.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
In the first half of 2015, Ukrainian documentary film "Maidan" by S.Loznica and short tape "Integration" by O.Radinsky, as well as Kiev music ethno-group "DakhBraha" was demonstrated in international festivals in Mexica. Weeks of Mexican cinema in Ukraine is also held.
Peculiarities of the country
1. Coca-Cola is the most consumed drink of Mexicans.
2. There is the highest percentage of child theft in this country. According to statistics, 26 000 people disappeared in Mexico the last six years.
3. Mexico ranks second in the world in terms of the number of ecosystems, monuments, parks and reserves.
