History of cooperation
Recognition of Ukraine: June 8, 1992.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: October 12, 1992.
There are no high-level contacts.
On 30.09.1997, the Head of the 52nd Session of the UNGA, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine H. Udovenko met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius K. Puryag in New York.
There is a practice of protocol correspondence.
In January-November 2019, bilateral trade amounted to USD 2.32 million and increased by 1.9 times compared to the same period in 2018. Exports of goods from Ukraine to Mauritius amounted to USD 1.67 million and imports of goods from Mauritius to Ukraine amounted to USD 646.000. The export of services in January-September 2019 amounted to USD 81.300, imports amounted to USD 1.37 million.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, as of October 1, 2019, the economy of Ukraine attracted USD 12.4 million of foreign direct investment from Mauritius.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
In 2019, according to the Ministry of the Education of Ukraine, there were 7 Mauritian students.
Peculiarities of the country
1. The average temperature in the country ranges from +23 ⁰C.
2. Almost one in 50 Mauritians is infected with HIV.
3. Mauritius ranks 2nd in terms of living standards among all African countries.
