History of cooperation

Recognition of Ukraine: January 24, 1992.

Establishment of diplomatic relations: November 5, 1992.

No official visits have been made since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

There is no inter-parliamentary cooperation or high-level bilateral bodies (headed by Presidents or Prime Ministers of countries).

On 13 and 16 December 2011, as a part of the visit of the Ambassador of Ukraine to Algeria (concurrently to the Republic of Mali) to Mali, meetings were held with the President of Mali, A. Touré, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali, S. Maiga, Deputy Chief of General Staff B. Bamba.

On July 10, 2015, within the framework of «Croatian Forum» (Dubrovnik) - the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine N. Galibarenko met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali A. Diop.

Decree of the President of Ukraine 6/2019 of January 09, 2019 «On Sending National Personnel for Participation of Ukraine in the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali» provides sending to MINUSMA national personnel from among military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine up to 20 people. Nine officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are serving in Mali.

Cooperation within the framework of international organizations:

In 2012, Malian party supported Ukraine in considering the issue of the condition of the Ukrainian object «Kyiv: Cathedral of Saint Sofia and nearby monastery buildings, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra» at the 36th session of the World Heritage Committee.

In early December 2019, the Mali delegation did not vote during the consideration of the resolution "Problems of militarization of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine) and parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov" at the UNGA

At the end of 2019, bilateral trade of goods between Ukraine and Mali amounted to USD 14 million.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation

Peculiarities of the country

1. Schools in Mali usually consist of chairs on the street, where pupils stydy.

2. Much of Mali's territory is as flat as a table. About 90% of the land here is a vast plain with sparse vegetation.

3. Life expectancy in Mali is slightly over 50 years. It is not even among the top 200 countries in the world by this parameter.
