Establishment of diplomatic relations: September 24, 1998.
In February 2019, the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Liberia started working in Monrovia. Professor Nelson Onyama became the Honorary Consul.
On 16.07.2015 and on 27.11.2018 the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Liberia held telephone conversations.
Trade and economic relations with the Republic of Liberia developed quite successfully during 2006-2008. Bilateral trade in goods amounted to USD 10-15 million annually.
A significant increase in trade turnover in 2012 and 2018 occurred due to the export of seagoing vessels from Ukraine.
In January-November 2019, bilateral trade turnover amounted to USD 7.35 million. The exports amounted to USD 7.29 million and imports amounted to USD 0.06 million. Main exports products are milk and dairy products, poultry eggs, meat and edible co-products.
Major imports groups of goods: cocoa and cocoa products.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
According to the Ukrainian State Center for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, there were 54 students from Liberia at Ukrainian universities in 2018-2019.
From 2010 to 2012, Ukraine provided Liberia with 2 government scholarships for education every year. However, none of them were used.
Peculiarities of the country
The Flag of Liberia is the most common flag of the world merchant fleet (about 1,600 ships of other countries sail under this flag).
There were more women politicians in this African country than in Europe.
A popular game in Liberia is kpokolokpa, a gambling game reminiscent of the well-known roulette wheel. Both adults and children play it. The game is fair.
