History of cooperation
In the history of bilateral relations the Presidents of Ukraine have visited Kuwait twice (in 2003 and 2018).
The Prime Minister of Ukraine visited Kuwait in 1993. In addition, in 2013 and 2018, official delegations headed by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Ukraine visited Kuwait.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine paid an official and working visits to Kuwait in 2002, 2011 and 2018, while the head of the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry visited Ukraine only once in 2004.
In November 2016 and February 2018, political consultations between Ukrainian and Kuwaiti foreign ministries at the level of deputy foreign ministers were held in Kyiv and El-Kuwait respectively.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, trade turnover in the first 11 months of 2019 was USD 33.3 millon. Export of goods amounted to USD 25.6 million. Imports of goods amounted to USD 7.7 million.
In November 2018, the 4th meeting of the Ukraine-Kuwait Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Technical and Trade Cooperation was held in Kuwait City. The fifth meeting of the Commission was expected in 2020.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
A number of important cultural and humanitarian events have taken place in recent years, in particular the performance of the chamber orchestra of the National Music Academy named after P.I. Tchaikovsky (January 2013), the exhibition of the Petrikovsky painting (May 2013),the performance of the National Chorus named Verevka (August 2015), the performance of P. Virsky Ukrainian National Academic Dance Ensemble (January 2019), concerts – “Kyiv-Classic” led by G. Makarenko and the Ukrainian pianist and composer E. Khmara (January 2020), etc.
19-24 January 2020 for the first time in the history of bilateral relations a large-scale image event called "Week of Ukraine in Kuwait" was held in Kuwait, The program included trade and economic, cultural and artistic, educational and sporting events.
Peculiarities of the country
1. One litre of water in Kuwait costs four times more than a litre of petrol.
2. The Kuwaiti dinar is the most expensive currency in the world. In January 2019, one Kuwaiti dinar was worth USD 3.3.
3. There are 146,000 millionaires in Kuwait - more than 10% of the indigenous population. The nature of personal wealth is not only in oil revenues, but also in the absence of a profit tax for businesses, which allows them to accumulate financial resources in their own accounts.
