History of cooperation
Ukraine considers the Republic of Kenya as an important and promising partner on the African continent, a leading country in the East African region.
30 November - 1 December 2016: the first-ever high-level bilateral political consultation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya took place in Nairobi.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January-November 2016 the volume of trade in goods between the two countries amounted to USD 32.2 million. Exports amounted to USD 26.5 million and imports amounted to USD 5.7 million. The positive surplus for Ukraine is USD 20.8 million.
The structure of bilateral trade: exports - grains (wheat), mineral fertilizers, vegetables; imports - coffee and tea, seeds and fruits, tobacco.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
Traditionally, Ukraine has been and remains an attractive platform for students in Kenya and East Africa in general. In 2015, 34 Kenyan citizens decided to receive higher education in Ukraine, in 2016 – 14. More than 100 Kenyan students are studying in Ukraine now.
Peculiarities of the country
1. The equator divides Kenya almost in half.
2. Kenya experiences a rainy season almost every year. The northern region of Kenya receives very little rainfall, while the central, coastal and western parts receive more than 40 inches of rain per year.
3. Kenya does not have four seasons, but two: the rainy season and the dry season.
