History of cooperation
Recognition of Ukraine: October 20, 1992.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: October 20, 1992.
Political relations: no problematic issues.
In January-November 2019, bilateral trade amounted to USD 107.55 million, exports amounted to USD 42.32 million, imports – to USD 65,23 million. The main export goods groups are ferrous metals, fertilizers, fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin, grains, products of the flour grinding industry.
Major imports goods: cocoa and cocoa products, caoutchouc, rubber.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
According to the Ukrainian State Centre for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in 2018 and 2019, 161 Ivorian students got education at Ukrainian universities.
The Côte d’Ivoire government has used the quota received in previous years to send scholarships holders to Ukraine at the expense of Ukraine’s state budget (3 scholarships have been awarded each year).
Peculiarities of the country
1. In Ivory Coast, 60% of men and only 38% of women are literate.
2. Ivory Coast is the world leader in cocoa production and is also the third largest coffee grower on the planet.
3. In the north of the country, hot winds blow in winter from the Sahara. As a result, it is difficult to breathe properly and visibility became worse due to the abundance of sand in the air.
