History of cooperation

Diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Senegal were established on November 25, 1992 (Кecognition of Ukraine: June 02, 1992). Senegal was not part of the USSR's sphere of influence, therefore, in the first years of Ukraine's independence, cooperation developed slowly.

On 30 November 2014, for the first time in the history of bilateral relations, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Guinea-Bissau met in Dakar (the Republic of Senegal) in the framework of the 15th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

In May-November 2019, exports to Guinea-Bissau amounted to USD 88.0 thousand. The structure of exports: poultry eggs, various food products.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation             

According to the Ukrainian State Centre for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 2 students from Guinea-Bissau studied at Ukrainian universities in 2018-2019.

Peculiarities of the country

1. Despite the tiny size of Guinea-Bissau, there are about 40 different dialects and dialects. The official language is Portuguese, but nobody speaks it fluently.

2. There are no power plants in all of Guinea-Bissau.

3. At the state level, it is forbidden to eat crocodiles. However, cannibalism is still practiced by the local Floupe tribe, who live on the border with Senegal.
