History of cooperation
In 1998, the President of Guinea Lansana Conté paid an official visit to Ukraine.
On 30 November 2014, Ukrainian and Guinean ministers of foreign affairs met in Dakar, Senegal, as part of the 15th Summit of the International Organization of la Francophonie.
On 07-12 October 2018, delegations of Ukraine and Guinea met within the framework of the 17th Francophonie Summit (Yerevan, Armenia).
Due to the difficult socio-political situation in Guinea in 2008-2009 and the winding down of bilateral economic cooperation in June 2012, it was decided to move the Embassy of Ukraine from Guinea to Senegal.
High-level bilateral bodies: Ukrainian-Guinean Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Commercial and Scientific and Technical Cooperation, The first and only meeting was held in March 2003 in Conakry.
Bilateral high-level bodies: The Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Guinean Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, the first and only meeting of which was held in Conakry in March 2003. The Guinean party did not comply with any paragraph of the minutes of the meeting of the Commission.
In March 2003, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Guinean Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in Conakry.
In January-November 2019, the bilateral trade turnover amounted to USD 123.52 million and exports amounted to USD 12.16 million.
Main exports are meat and edible co-products, railway locomotives, ferrous metals, nuclear reactors; boilers; machines, electrical machines, various foodstuffs, fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin.
Main imports are ores, slags and ash.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
Ukraine has been training specialists for Guinea since the 1960s. The fall in the standard of living in that country, as well as the increase in the cost of education in Ukrainian universities, have led to a general decrease in the number of Guinean young people studying in Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian State Centre for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in 2018 and 2019, there were 96 Guinean students getting education at Ukrainian universities.
Peculiarities of the country
1. In Guinea, education is compulsory for children aged 7-14. However, only 30 per cent of all children attend school.
2. Guinea is ranked the 4th in the list of countries for infections by dangerous diseases.
3. Higher education in this country can be obtained by passing exams on Word and Excel courses.
