History of cooperation

On September 3, 2002, the President of Ukraine met with the Vice-President of Ghana at the World Summit on Sustainable Development. (Johannesburg, South Africa).

On 13 May 2008, the first bilateral political consultations were held in Accra at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the two countries.

On 31 November 2014, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana within the framework of the 15th Summit of the International Organization of Francophonie (Dakar, Senegal).

On 17 April 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration at the Conference on Cyberspace 2015 (The Hague, the Kingdom of the Netherlands).

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January-November 2019, trade in goods between the two countries amounted to USD 261.4 million.

Exports amounted to USD 75.3 million.                                  

The structure of exports: ferrous metals; fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin; other products of animal origin; mineral fuels; oil and its distillation products; products of ferrous metals; products of the flour grinding industry; tannin extracts.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 1,665 citizens of the Republic of Ghana studied at the Ukrainian universities in 2019.

Peculiarities of the country

1. Ghana is currently among the top 10 gold producing countries in the world.

2. There are over 100 rare animal species, including elephants and cheetahs, in 16 Ghanaian reserves.

3. The official language of Ghana is English, although only a third of Ghanaians speak it.
