History of cooperation
Diplomatic relations were established on September 1, 1993.
In April 2011, the Head of the Gabonese foreign policy department paid a first official visit to Ukraine.
On 29 November 2014, the Ukrainian and foreign ministers met during the XV OIF summit in Dakar.
In 2018, exports amounted to USD 14.2 million.
Main export items: meat and edible co-products, fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin, products of the flour grinding industry, milk and dairy products; poultry eggs; natural honey.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
During 2009-2011, around 100 representatives of Gabonese youth received invitations from Ukrainian universities.
According to the Ukrainian State Centre for International Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 14 students from the Gabonese Republic studied in Ukraine in 2018-2019.
Peculiarities of the country
1. About 120 oil fields have been discovered on the territory of the State.
2. The capital of Gabon, Libreville, was founded by 52 dark-skinned slaves that the French navy saved from slave traders’ ship.
3 The majority of Gabon's population is Christian. A significant number of Gabonese manifest local African cults. There is also a small community of Muslims and Jews.
