History of cooperation
Recognition of Ukraine: December 26, 1991.
Establishment of diplomatic relations: February 11, 1992.
Brazil abstained in the vote on the UN General Assembly resolution № 68/262 of 27 March 2014 «Territorial Integrity of Ukraine». The country also abstained in the vote on the resolutions adopted in support of Ukraine by the UN Human Rights Council (2014) and UNESCO (2014 and 2015). On April 23, 2014 the Committee on Foreign Affairs and National Defense of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Brazil adopted the Resolution on support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Brazil operates the Group of Inter-parliamentary Relations "Brazil-Ukraine". The Group for Inter-parliamentary Relations with Brazil operates in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Ukraine`s main export goods to Brazil are urea, insulin, rolled steel, passenger car tyres and anthracite coal.
Brazil`s main import goods are raw tobacco, coffee, pork, ferroalloys.
In the first half of 2015, mutual trade in goods amounted to USD 101.8 million. Exports to Brazil amounted to USD 24 million. Imports to Ukraine amounted to USD 77.8 million.
There is a representative office of Ukrainian company “Motor Sich” in Brazil.
The Ukrainian-Brazilian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation has been operating since 2001.
Cultural and humanitarian cooperation
National Pedagogical Dragomanov University provides distant learning of the Ukrainian language in Brazil. Brazil organizes Brazilian film festivals in Ukraine.
Peculiarities of the country
1. The Brazilian police are considered to the most brutal one among civilized countries.
2. There is at least one football stadium in every city. Brazil is an absolute record holder for the number of stadiums.
3. It is customary to kiss women on both cheeks when you meet and greet them. For men, the usual greeting is traditional.
