History of cooperation

After adopting the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine on 24 August 1991, the Kingdom of Bahrain recognized Ukraine on 5 January 1992.

In 2002, the first practical steps were taken to start a political dialogue between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Bahrain. On March 1, 2002, the President of Ukraine L. Kuchma congratulated the King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on Bahrain's historic event: the declaration of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its transformation into a constitutional monarchy. The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also sent a corresponding congratulatory message. On 29 January 2008, the first ever Ukrainian-Bahraini political consultations in the history of bilateral relations took place in Manama, where the Ukrainian delegation was headed by Acting First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Y. Kostenko. Parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Bahrain received a new impetus in 2019. On 13 February 2019, a "Friendship Group" was established in the Kingdom's Parliament with Ukraine (Friendship Committee). In October 2019 there was a liberalization of visa regime between our state and the Kingdom of Bahrain - Ukraine was included in the list of countries whose citizens can get Bahraini visa "on arrival" to the Kingdom.

During 11 months of 2019, total foreign trade turnover between Ukraine and the Kingdom of Bahrain amounted to almost USD 12million. The surplus for Ukraine during this period amounted to USD 11.6 million.

The main imports from Bahrain to Ukraine for 11 months of 2019 were the following: mineral products - 90%, as well as non-precious metals and products of light industry.
